La Jolla Shores Sunset Kayak Tour
Kayak La Jolla at sunset and enjoy the calm of the ocean waters late in the day. Sunset kayaking is most enjoyable in the summer and fall months, with the warm Southern California air and ocean waters between July and October.
Sunset kayaking is a great way for couples to celebrate anniversaries while vacationing in San Diego and La Jolla. Sunset kayak tours are also great for honeymooners, and those who want to watch a famous San Diego sunset and kayak La Jolla. No San Diego vacation would be complete without watching a San Diego sunset! If you're lucky, you might even see the Green Flash, which occurs for a split second occasionally as the sun finally sets. What better way to watch the sunset than in a kayak, on the ocean!
Basic Itinerary
Our sunset kayak tours will explore the breathtaking seacliffs and caves of La Jolla. Paddle to Sunny Jim's Cave, Arch Cave and the Clams' Cave and witness an array of marine life including harbor seals, sea lions, Garibaldi, leopard sharks, and maybe even dolphins! Also, kayak to the kelp beds and Underwater Ecological Reserve, just northwest of La Jolla Cove before paddling back to shore as the sun slowly disappears along the horizon. While kayaking in La Jolla, we will show you how to surf your kayak back to shore to finish off your kayak trip.
About La Jolla Sea Caves
Facing north towards La Jolla Shores, the seven sea caves of La Jolla are perched within a 75-million-year-old sandstone sea cliff. The caves are named as follows, from west to east: The Clams' Cave, Sunny Jim's Cave, Arch Cave, Sea Surprize, Shopping Cart, Little Sister, and White Lady. The sea caves are only accessible by kayak, except Sunny Jim's.
What to Bring
You will get wet on our kayak tour! You may leave a towel, dry change of clothes and personal belongings in our complimentary lockers. We recommend you arrive in your bathing suit, ready to go. Going barefoot on the kayaks is fine, or you can wear sandals or watershoes. Baseball-type hats and sunscreen are also encouraged for your kayak tour. Wetsuits are available for rent for $5 on cooler days.
Requirements
We welcome kayakers of all shapes and sizes, from beginners to advanced on our kayaking tours in La Jolla. As long as you can swim and are at least 6 years of age, we encourage you to come join the fun! No previous kayak experience is necessary for our kayak tours. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult in a double kayak.
