April Weekend Comedy Schedule (4/29/11)

With the NBA playoffs and major league baseball in full swing, what better way to release the stress of your favorite team losing then by checking out one of these great comedy shows happening around San Diego this weekend.

Winston’s in Ocean Beach kicks things off Friday night with their weekly showcase, Ocean Beach Comedy. Hosted by OBC’s chief of operations Jeff Bilodeau, this week’s headliner is Quartez Wynn from The Jamar and Quartez radio show. Also on the bill are Erik Martin (Nug Radio) and Faisal Mojo. Open mic starts at 6 p.m. with the OBC showcase starting at 8 p.m. 1921 Bacon St. ($5)

If you’re out in Temecula be sure to check out Shayla Rivera headlining the The Pechanga Comedy Club this weekend. Shayla was the host of You’re Not The Man I Married on Lifetime and was also featured in the 2009 Comedy Central Special, Comedy Rehab. She’s been a frequent collaborator with Paul Rodriguez and has gone overseas to perform for American Troops in Iraq. 45000 Pechanga Parkway. ($22)

Friday and Saturday brings Chris D’Elia back to the stage at The La Jolla Comedy Store. D’Elia was the breakout star of TBS’ hit show Glory Daze and his portrayal of perma-stoned fratboy, Bill Stankowski is one of the reasons the show was picked up for a second season. Opening up the shows will be Hollywood Store favorites Adam Ray and Byron Bowers. 8 and 10:30 p.m. 916 Pearl St. FREE.($20)

Also in La Jolla Saturday night is Bella Roma’s Comedy Showcase, with stand-up comedy by a handful of San Diego’s best local comics including, Chase Brockett, Kim Thompson, Dallas McLaughlin, Jesse Egan and host Geoff Armstrong. 7 p.m. 6830 La Jolla Blvd. FREE

Sunday ends the weekend with The Comedy Store’s Open Mic Night The open mic is a rite of passage for all young up-and-comers in San Diego’s comedy scene, where they perform fresh material in front of a live and often disparaging crowd. The open mic starts at 7 p.m. and is promptly followed by The Comedy Store’s “Best of San Diego” at 8 p.m. 916 Pearl St. FREE
