Drybar Blows Into Del Mar for Blowout Styling
Though very successful in La Jolla running a more traditional spa, owner of Tina Marie & Co., is branching out into the world of the hottest new beauty trend: blow dry bars.
Owner, Tina Marie Wright, of the very posh Tina Marie & Co. -- A skin, hair, and nail boutique in La Jolla -- will celebrate her boutique's sixth anniversary this year. But come July 15, she will soon open her second business called Drybar, located in the Del Mar Highlands Center.
Tina Marie’s newest baby, Drybar, is set to open in July 15 here in San Diego.
Alli Webb, a former publicist and professional hair stylist, started Drybar. The idea came because Webb had a side business called “Straight-At-Home”, where working on referral-only basis in L.A., she went into people’s houses and blow-dried their hair for them. The business took off, and Webb decided to make it her full-time job.
Webb brought the idea to Michael Landau, formerly Vice President of Brand Marketing at Yahoo. He’s now her CEO. Together they’ve managed to build a bit of a blow-dry empire from San Francisco to San Diego and east to Scottsdale and Dallas.
Dry Bar was named by Entrepreneur Magazine as the “Best idea of 2010.”
The concept behind the blow-dry bar is simple—no cut, no color, just blowouts for $35, with a signature menu offering blowouts with names like Cosmopolitan, Mai-Tai, Manhattan, Shirley Temple, Southern Comfort, and the Straight Up.
“It makes women feel like rock stars," Bortrian says. "They don’t have sweat trying to schedule a blowout with their stylists, and for only $35, it’s an affordable luxury.”
