Tyler the Creator keeps the Future Odd in San Diego
Los Angeles rap collective Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All have been on a hot streak in recent months. The blogosphere has been lighting up the internet on this much-hyped crew, which consists of 11 members ranging in ages from 17 to 24 years-old:Hodgy Beats, Domo Genesis, Frank Ocean, Mike G, Left Brian, Matt Martians, Jasper Dolphin and the notoriously M.I.A. Earl Sweatshirt.
Fueled by infectious beats and gruff rhyming by ring leader Tyler, the Creator, Odd Future has released over 11 albums for free through their website since 2008, with Tyler, the Creator’s solo album Goblin, being released through XL Recordings last month. Their rambunctious performance at the 2011 Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival was one of the weekend’s highlights, and the group's recent tour of Europe and the East Coast drew sold out crowds and nonstop media attention.
Odd Future recently announced a brief West Coast tour with an appearance in San Diego on June 16, at The Epicentre in Mira Mesa. OFWGKTA's rowdy and often out-of-control performances can best be described as a cross between a hip-hop concert and a punk rock show, featuring thrashing mosh pits, stage diving and plenty of projectiles flying across the room amid bass heavy sounds supplied by DJ and producer Syd The Kyd.
Their all-ages show at The Epicentre will be a chance to catch a glimpse of a young band that may already be in their prime, and should be at the top of the list for events not to miss this summer in San Diego.
