The University of San Diego's Index of Leading Economic Indicators for San Diego County, created by Professor Alan Gin of USD reports a 0.3 percent in May 2009.Consumer confidence grew to its second consecutive gain after 24 straight down months. Sharp increases in local stock prices and the outlook for the national economy, with some help from a small rise in building permits contributed. However, he labor market variables continue to plunge, with both initial claims for unemployment insurance and help wanted advertising sharply negative.
