Scott was at his wit’s end. He wouldn’t smile and show his teeth and he felt very embarrassed in public. “I was so embarrassed by my smile that I had to quit my job, “ Scott said. It was too hard to be in front of people with teeth in that condition. He feared the dentist and hadn’t been in decades.

Enter the world of Sedation & Cosmetic Dentistry. Scott did; and finally had a solution that not only restored his smile and confidence, but did so in total comfort.

Sedation dentistry is a safe and simple method that involves taking a small pill about one hour prior to treatment; then relaxing under a warm blanket in specially padded chairs and listening to peaceful and soothing music while undergoing the procedure. Patients can return to work the following day. Many don’t even remember what happened at the dentist.

Dr. Jeff Gray DDS is one of the pioneers in sedation dentistry and has been serving the San Diego area for nearly 20 years, providing a safe and comfortable experience to over 5,000 patients. He gets a great deal of joy in helping to turn somebody’s life around. “The before and after photos (below) tell more of a story than any words could describe,” said Dr. Gray, who has won the Award of Excellence from the Las Vegas Institute for Cosmetic Dentistry and has been voted by his peers as one of The Best Dentists in America" for the past four years. “Scott hadn’t looked or felt better in years, and none of this would have been possible without the miracle of sedation dentistry. Now he is back in his executive position, working and proudly smiling.”

The fear of a visit to the dentist plagues many people today. Penny, for instance. Her teeth had turned a shade of blue-gray over the years as a result of taking antibiotics as a child. She kept herself in great shape, worked out regularly, was blessed with a fun personality - and felt terrible about her smile. Her self confidence was shot after years of holding back her smile and laughter to hide her discolored teeth until , Penny discovered Dr. Gray’s award-winning cosmetic dentistry.

“My fear of dentists was so great that I had let my teeth go,” she said. When Dr. Gray was through, changing her upper porcelain veneers and whitening her lower teeth, Penny was so confident in her new smile, she began submitting her new photos in modeling contests.

“Often, decades of dental problems can be eliminated in just a few visits,” Dr. Gray said. “Sedation is excellent for those who can’t get numb, tend to gag, have a lot of treatment to accomplish, or just really would rather snooze through their appointments.”

Meanwhile, since Dr. Gray pioneered the Cosmetic & Sedation Dentistry industry in Southern California, more and more patients are awakening to find that new smiles are changing their lives.

Dr. Gray’s life is changing as well. Recently he opened a new office in La Mesa, with Country legend Garth Brooks on hand for the ceremony. Gray and Brooks work together on the Smiles for Life Foundation and Teammates for Kids, helping to benefit youngsters all over the country.

“You see what a nice smile can do for a person’s self confidence and self esteem, and you want to spread that around as much as possible,” Gray said. “This charitable work allows us to help kids who might not otherwise be able to take advantage of it.” And with that, Dr. Gray - what else? - smiled.
