San Diego Booze Ban

Although it is no longer permitted to drink alcohol on the beach, this law only pertains to San Diego City Parks and Beaches, which includes Mission Bay Park, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, and Ocean Beach.

Here we show you how to have a cocktail legally at the beach, regardless of the ban.

You can find the full text of the law and full description of the City of San Diego's new beach regulations at www.sandiego.gov

If people stay away because they can't drink then those are just the ones you want to say away. Call it preventive medicine.

Compromise

Although I am sick of the current ban on alcohol at the beach I would have no problem if they were to have a ban during holiday weekends(Memorial Day, 4th, Labor Day, etc). This is when they have most of the problems happen anyway so why not have the ban during the high volume beach weekends? Just a thought, I don't think the brilliant city counsel would go for it or think of such a solution.

Vote No On Prop D
written by Jerry Roman, September 03, 2008
Responsible taxpaying citizens of San Diego wanted to vote on this last year. Council Member Kevin Faulconer, nice move wasting our time and tax dollars to give yourself an out on the "trial alcohol ban" you rushed through the City Council in a knee jerk reaction to keep everyone safe at our beaches, bays and parks. Crime is up and taxes from tourist's are down. GET MOTIVATED San Diego. It is TIME TO TAKE BACK YOUR FREEDOM to enjoy a beverage of your choice at our beaches, bays and parks. REGISTER TO VOTE and get your friends to as well. WE CAN AND WILL send a clear message this November, we do not need the City Government to baby sit the citizens of San Diego. Write your City Council and let them know you are aganist the ban http://www.sandiego.gov/citycouncil/ and register to Vote aganist this ban http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_vr.htm

Nothing wrong with having a couple of beers and a smoke while relaxing on the beach. Why let a few idiots mess up our freedoms.Hitler was the first to enforce smoking bans. Our government has turned into the nazis that we were against.Wake up!

ehhh. . . I am over it
written by Actuallyliveshere, June 28, 2008
A tall can on the beach during sunset is a completely underated thing. I did the whole iceblock on the beach 4th madness. It was cool, but I won't miss the zonies or people from Santucky. The surf isn't as crowded with jean short wearing turds. I miss the fire pits, that is what needs to come back. you know just ban people from arizona and anyone that goes to SDSU. that should take care of the problem

who to vote for
written by man_du, May 07, 2008
i was wondering who i should vote for for mayor in this upcoming election. i am against the alcohol ban, but am having trouble finding info on what candidates are for or against the ban. does anybody know where i can find this info? and also, how did the tap room get on the list of bars on the beach? it's nowhere near the beach in pb; it's at least 10 blocks away.

Bad decision California!
written by Billie, April 29, 2008
Great... Stop what is our biggest revenue! Visitors. I agree that we should enforce the laws and NOT make new ones. Holiday weekends seem to be our biggest problem, why not make a ban only on the holidays. We welcome our visitors and appreciate their money.

We live in the US not Russia.....Stop telling us what to do, or CA will loss big time! It will come down to $$$$$'s of lost revenue
written by Candy, April 29, 2008
I agree that the ban will cost CA a lot of money. I too go to CA and hang out on the beach (yes, with my 2 kids) and do enjoy to have a few beers relaxing on the beach. I think CA should have considered there loss of revenue. Bad decision. More enforcement of the laws, not more laws.

Do we really need more laws!!!
written by Karen, April 29, 2008
Being from Arizona, we often spend a lot of time/money in CA. One of our favorite things to do is rent a condo for a week or so and hang out on the beach. While at the beach we do enjoy having a few beers. I am NOT in favor of the alcohol ban. I do believe it is going to cost CA a lot of revenue $$$$$. I agree with some of the others that stated, make the ban in effect on holiday weekends but not year round. Cancelled my trip to CA. Will be going the extra mile to Florida instead.

drinking on the beach
written by Marian I love the beach too, April 15, 2008
I like the occasional beer at sunset looking at the waves crash with the brightly lit sky. Nothing beats the sunsets in San Diego. However, I hate the mess the routy drinkers bring on big holidays.
4th of July in pacific beach is a mad house.
I believe an alcohol ban on the beach should be for major holidays only. Merely for crowd control. On the average day on the beach in San Diego isn't the problem.

RE: PB Vet for 15 Years
written by San Diego Native, April 10, 2008
PB Vet, I think your right in the fact that there are new kids ruining "what PB used to be" however, you fail to realize this is not the majority. Hvae you seen the videos on youtube of the "riot" ? It's not quite a "riot" Fights on the beach involving alcohol have happened throughout the years even back in 1991.
In fact fights happen all the time involving the "male species" it's not the kids, it's the men (boys). Why can't we ban them from the beach and not ban the booze?
I think it's sad that this law has passed. For those who are responsible, the majority.

Your a bunck of punks who got what you deserve...
written by PB Vet for 15 Years, April 09, 2008
I lived in PB for over 15 years starting in 91 and have watched it go to hell and eventually moved out. PB used to be fun and it's all the new kids that have now screwed it up for everyone. You get what you deserve not being able to drink on the beach. HA HA your a bunch of punks, a riot are you kidding me! Have fun drinking in your apts. LOL.

To bad you will never really know what PB is supposed to be like.

If people dont like drunks on the beach, then dont go!!! What the F! Go take your dumb A** kids someplace else. I agree, PB isnt the place for OLD GEEZERZ who have the problem with drinking, or for YOUR kids. They are going to end up like all of us drinkers on the beach some day if you keep bringin them down! This will not pass... Its only a year, then we'll all be back to our partyin!!

RE: alcohol ban on San Diego Beaches
written by Harold, April 03, 2008
I lives and work in PB and I think the people who suport the no drinking on San Diego beaches crap should have never moved to PB .

There are plenty of beaches for you to take your family to if you want to shelter them. As for celebrating the 4th with a drunken party, I'm pretty sure our forefathers would be impressed. Do you think the planning of the Boston Tea Party was anything other than some drunk men that came up with that?

alcohol ban on San Diego Beaches
written by Beach Goer, April 03, 2008
We failed. 1 year alcohol ban incoming. What are the chances of banning alcohol this year, and families next year?

Children infringe on my right to have a clam day at the beach. Their screaming and crying cheapens my experience.

This law is a terrible thing!
written by Anonymous, March 27, 2008
San Diego city beach regulations now make it illegal for us to have a cold one at sunset, put an end to romance on San Diego beaches (no more picnics with champagne)! Yet I wonder how it will go this summer. Will there be less people on the beach since they are no fun anymore. Will they now be littered with bratty kids instead of rambunctious 20 something’s?

San Diego was one of the last beaches in San Diego to ban alcohol from it’s beaches. Now where do we go? Thanks sandiego.com for giving us a little help!
