Get Styled at Coronado's Blue Jeans and Bikinis
There are two items of clothing most women hate shopping for. One is a decent fitting pair of jeans, the other is a bathing suit. Both reveal the parts of our bodies we most want to hide, and yet when all is said and done, a great pair of jeans or a good fitting bathing suit can be the difference between hot or not.
On the lovely and tranquil island of Coronado, the clothing boutique Blue Jeans And Bikinis offers fitting help with both denim and swimwear—and both at slim prices.
Located in the old Spreckels carriage house, the boutique shares space with the ladies of the styling-concept store Be Styled. Owned by local stylists Barbara Burton and Elena Haley, Be Styled offers cheap chic, personal styling help, and a great location for special events. Every Friday and Saturday the champagne flows as customers can get help pulling together a look from head to toe.
Working together, these two stores keep the fashionable options in Coronado—eliminating the need for the long drive to the mall.
Blue Jeans and Bikinis operations manager, Betsy Crozier, says that the owner of the store, Rachel Wolfe, worked as a rep in the swimwear business for many years before deciding to open the Coronado location—the store'sother locale is in El Cajon off old Highway 80.
Since both boutiques are located across the street from the famous Hotel Del Coronado, the walking traffic, particularly in the summer months, is primarily tourists. But the rest of the year, locals need someplace to shop, and these two spots are hoping to be it. Blue Jeans and Bikinis offers 10 percent off to all Coronado residents as well as any military women year-round.
Blue Jeans and Bikinis sells all the major denim brands for less than the department stores--lines like True Religion, 7 For All Mankind, Joe’s Jeans, and Not Your Daughter’s Jeans (Oprah’s favorites because they’re like jeans with Spanx built in).
“We carry suits and jean styles that make women look good,” Crozier says. Brands include A Che, Michael Kors, Vix, and L*Space.
Not to forget the younger gals, an antique grain bin serves as a “bikini bin” that offers juniors suits for $40.
Blue Jeans and Bikinis has a wonderful selection of tops, beach totes, embellished Havaina flip-flops, and locally made and one-of-a-kind jewelry by Solana Beach designer Catherine Max.
On Saturday, May 28, the store will have a designer trunk show from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and all sample sale swim suits size 6 or 8 will be $30.
Saturday, June 4, the store celebrates its one-year anniversary. The party offers food by the Miho Gastrotruck, prizes and great clothes.
The drive across the bridge to Coronado offers some of the best views of the city, and on a beautiful day, no place is more peaceful -- or, as it turns out, more fashionable.
