Since its inception, the tournament has raised more than one million dollars for local charities, including Rady Children’s Hospital and the Pro Kids Golf Academy. “It is a privilege for me because of my connection to the City of San Diego and to our foundation’s long-term commitment to support charitable causes in the San Diego community,” says former San Diego Chargers quarterback Brees. Past tournament winners include four-time champion Rick Rhoden, Dan Quinn, Trent Dilfer, Grant Fuhr, Andy VanSlyke, Brian Kinchen, Mickey Tettleton and defending champion Jack Marin. The Celebrity Championship hosted by Drew Brees consists of a two-day celebrity-amateur tournament (May 21 – 22), nightly parties (May 20 – 22), and a 36-hole, low gross celebrity-only competition (May 22 – 23). The general public is welcome to all three days of the tournament. Children under 10 and guests with military I.D. get in free. Three-day general admission tickets are available at the gate for $10. JimmySD December 01, 2009Brees is a great guy, but Rivers is better.
Heather Back December 01, 2009Rivers has developed this year and it starting to be more consistent (thankfully). Still unconvinced we should have traded Brees, however.
Tony1212 April 26, 2010I hear a Secure Child event is going to be happening there also. Parents will have the opportunity to get a photograph of their child, documentation of their child’s fingerprints and other vital info. In case of an emergency that info can be handed over to Law Enforcement to get the most out of their help. This is a great FREE community service for families to check out while at the event.
JoshBoard April 27, 2010I've never gone to a golf tournament, aside from volunteering at one for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, but my friends all tell me it's great for meeting the celebs. They won't sign 10 different 8x10s, but usually one or two items.
As for the better QB, it's obviously Philip Rivers. But it's a great debate, because people can bring up the fact that Brees has a Super Bowl, and for many, that trumps everything in sports debates (which is really silly, because I'm guessing Terry Bradshaw has more Super Bowl rings that a lot of people -- Dan Marino and Elway come to mind -- that everyone will tell you were better than Bradshaw). As much as I hate the Chargers for always getting rid of people I want to stay, I couldn't fault them with the Brees thing. He's not very tall and doesn't have a huge arm. They drafted Rivers because he has those things. And it wasn't until that last season here, that Brees really shined. With his shoulder injury (and the high salary Rivers was getting as a back-up), it made it an easy decision. |
