True financial fact: Certain San Diego Padres ticket stubs could be worth up to $5,000. If, for example, you are one of 15,880 fans who attended the Tuesday (June 2) game in which the Padres beat the New York Mets on a walk-off grand slam by Adrian Gonzalez, you’ve got a golden ticket.

Any Petco Park ducat from a game won by the Padres on a walk-off homer, or, if a grand slam is hit, is worth 50 percent off nearly everything at the nearby Manchester Grand Hyatt. Rooms, meals, bar tabs, spa services—even weddings—can be redeemed for half off, up to a $10,000 purchase.

There were more than 99,000 tickets sold this season for five home games that, if you kept the stub, were pretty good investments:

April 16—Walk-off homer by Chase Headley.

April 19—Walk-off homer by David Eckstein.

May 26—Walk-off homer by Jerry Hairston Jr.

May 31—Grand slam by Jerry Hairston Jr.

June 2—Walk-off grand slam by Gonzales. (No, the promotion doesn’t increase in value for achieving both a walk-off tater and a grannie. Nor does a mere walk-off hit help claim the half-off value.)

According to a Hyatt spokesperson, three wedding have been booked using the Hyatt Grand Slam Discount. As ludicrous as it sounds, if the entire 99,374 block of 50-percent-off tickets were cashed in on $10,000 purchases, fans would save a collective $490 million in discounts.

It should also be noted that tickets from any home victory are worth 30 percent off; even a losing Padres effort gets you 10 percent off stuff at the downtown Hyatt. (You do, however, have to wait a day to reclaim the discount at the hotel.)

So get out of the habit of tossing your ticket after the game; andcheck the grounds at the park for stubs from attendees who aren’t in the know, like you.
