Very Genuine Asian Delight
Rickshaw Corner from the outside does not impress. Located on the side of a Tierrasanta strip center, it appears to be a greasy spoon fast food Chinese hold in the wall. But step inside the Rickshaw and pleasant booths, a tasteful décor, and some of the best Asian food in town is waiting for you.
Now, there is a big old neon sign menu hanging from the ceiling, and this is not traditional Chinese fare, but whatever you call this Japanese, Chinese, and Korean restaurant, I call it incredibly good.
Mrs. Eater and I usually start our eclectic Asian meal with a Japanese appetizer called the rickshaw roll. Kind of a psuedo sushi plate made with fried shrimp, cucumber, cream cheese and a wonderful flavor. Another favorite appetizer of ours is the garlic chicken wings. Huge wings are fried and covered with a fabulous garlic sauce.
Moving onto the entrees, it’s a Korean dish that’s stolen my heart, and delights my taste buds. The Chow Ma soup is made with shrimp, pork, sprouts, noodles, and a broth that’s on the spicy side, but a flavor that makes it one of the top soups served in San Diego. A huge bowl of this stuff goes for less than six bucks, and will fill the hungriest eater.
There are some excellent Chinese style dishes, first rate broccoli beef, Kung Pao Chicken, three ingredient fried rice with chicken seafood and pork… all in the five to six dollar range. It all adds up to an excellent dining experience that’s not true Chinese, but a very genuine Asian delight.
