Excellent Cheap Eats

FoodBack before there was a Thai restaurant in town, before I had even heard of Thai style, Su Mei Yu opened a tiny India street chicken restaurant, and called it Saffron. With marinated rotisserie chicken cooked to perfection, she managed to sneak in her Thai influence with exotic sauces made with peanuts, garlic, mint and peppers. Dipping the chicken in those Thai sauces was my introduction to a cuisine that today is just possibly my favorite style.

FoodThen, a few years ago, Su Mei decided to it was time to open a true Thai restaurant, and since the place next door was available, she opened Saffron number two, and started serving up the true food of Thailand. My favorites are the stir fried noodle dishes, filled with veggies, succulent meat, and those exotic Thai spices. Everything from Pad-See-Ewe to Pad Thai to my personal favorite, the Spicy Drunken Noodles with Chicken, complex dishes with fabulous flavors. You order at a counter, and the meal is served on real plates, but with fast food prices of about seven bucks a dish. At Saffron, with upscale bargain priced cuisine.
