Excellent Holiday Party Food
When the Holiday rush starts to get to me, I take a few minutes to try out my favorite Hole-in-the-Wall restaurants. Some of the best cuisine in town is at the small, hidden gems, and the holidays give me another reason to visit them. You see, Mrs. Eater and I throw at least four major family and friends parties during the holidays, and there is some great party food in bulk at Leah’s and La Playita.
4204 Rolando Blvd., San Diego
Leah’s has been serving up succulent Filipino food in the Rolando section of town for years, with pancit noodles, chicken and pork adobo, and some of the best Lumpia in town. Lumpia are Filipino egg rolls, with seasoned meat and veggies, and served with a wonderful homemade sweet and sour dipping sauce. Leah gets orders for thousands during the holidays, and charges about seventy-five bucks for a hundred.
5185 Clairemont Mesa Blvd., San Diego
But if Mexican seafood is your game, there is an incredibly good white fish and shrimp ceviche served at La Playita in Clairemont. You can buy it by the tray, or by the quart, which will set you back about eight bucks. This flavorful ceviche is made with lime, white fish, shrimp, cilantro and onions, and the result is an excellent appetizer sure to please any holiday crowd.
