Great Big Bountiful Breakfasts
Back in the good old day’s, when I was a kid, places like Perry’s Café were a common sight. These truck stops, just off the Highway, had a long counter you could sit at, and were staffed by down to earth waitresses who were quick with the coffee, and quick to joke with their customers. Today, that kind of diner has almost disappeared from the San Diego Scene, except for one at the junction of Highway 5 and 8.
Perry’s Café has all the trappings of the classic diner, with great big comfort breakfasts, a dining counter, and long time waitresses who provide excellent service and top notch personalities. The specialties are called Frittatas, big fancy omelets made in eleven styles, my favorite, the Mexican with shredded seasoned beef, tomatoes, onions and bell peppers, and all that covered with cheese.
The chorizo eggs are first rate, and the pancakes with blueberries and strawberries are excellent. Prices range from about four to six bucks, and expect a line on weekends. At Perry’s, a noisy, busy, lively old-fashioned diner that delivers.
