Let’s face it, when it comes to dining San Diego has so many incredible choices to tickle your taste buds that deciding on a venue to enjoy your evening can be tricky. So to make it simple, let us suggest Island Prime to dazzle your senses.
Three very simple observations will explain why: (1) Location – nestled on the banks of Harbor Island, with waves lapping the rocks, the scenery could not be more incredible. Try to get a window table and prepare to be mesmerized by the San Diego skyline. The view is killer! (2) The ambience – full of tradition, class and style, the interior of the restaurant is decorated with loving care, to showcase the venue and the city it graces. (3) The food – when it all comes down to it, the third reason matters the most, and Island Prime delivers in spades!
We started the evening with an appetizer of fennel crusted diver scallops on elephant garlic risotto with pancetta & basil oil. The scallops were to die for. Succulent, tender and full of splendid flavors, they could not have been better, and mixed with a dash of the risotto rice, a sweet way to begin the night.
Our party of four ordered a wide array of menu items and all agreed to share our choices. Arriving at our table in a parade of eye spinning presentation were the Indigo Grill’s famous cedar plank roasted salmon with cucumber salsa and black linguini and the free range chicken breast stuffed with pine nuts, boursin cheese and tapenade. Accompanying them was the nights special including, a bacon-wrapped swordfish, grilled and topped with a pineapple-orange salsa, served over mixed greens with feta cheese, fingerling potatoes, and a stoneground mustard vinaigrette. The second special was three hearty lobster claws broiled in garlic butter with a side order of smoked wild mushrooms. All four were an extreme, knock-your-socks-off rapture of fine food. The salmon melted in your mouth with its unique blend of flavors and the black linguini made for a delicate accompaniment that was visually stunning. The chicken could not have been more moist or appetizing and the stuffing added fabulous nuances to the dish. It truly was the tastiest chicken we have ever enjoyed. Not to be outdone was the incredible bacon-wrapped swordfish. The blend of seafood and bacon flavors was inspired and the pineapple-orange salsa was decadently blissful. Add in the three generous lobster claws basking in their savory garlic butter (which incited delighted “sighs” from all of us) and the night was made to order.
After sampling each others dishes, we all wanted bragging rights for who had chosen the best entrée of the evening. But there were only winners here as all four of the meals were gold-medal recipients in their own right. To be truthful though, we all were champions because we were able to share in an amazing, charming dinner experience. Add a slice of the scrumptious key-lime dessert and the meal become one to not be ever forgotten.
The service was impeccable and completely added to the flow of the evening. Please note, accompanying Island Prime is a splendid sister restaurant called C Level that offers its own sassy flavor to the establishment. That’s a review for another time because there is no more room in our bellies for another morsel. Island Prime’s amazing dishes took care of that. Enjoy!
