It’s rare to discover one let alone two outstanding restaurants at one location but that is exactly the what awaits you at C-Level and its sister venue, Island Prime. Of the two “sisters”, Island Prime is the one who ascended into high society with lovely traditional décor, impeccable taste and manners. While the other “sister”, C-Level, developed her own manner of dress, pushing the envelope a bit and creating her own sense of style. Today our party had a date with the friskier of the two, C-Level.

C-Level has the distinction of having one of the best views in town. Indoor and outdoor dining is available and be sure to take a table outside if the weather is nice. Enjoy the ocean breeze and the enticing San Diego skyline. Don’t be too distracted by the beauty around you because you have more to behold when you gaze at the C-Level menu and its delectable fare.

We started with some appetizers from the “under way” portion of the menu. A must to indulge in is the Chesapeake Bay Crab Cakes (with grain mustard aioli, frisee & bacon salad). Break through the tender crust of the cake and enjoy the wonderfully moist interior with its rousing flavor. No fishy taste here, just a delightful flavorful slice of heaven. Another must item is the Warm Lobster and Artichoke Fondue (with baby arugula, smoked bacon & green apple in a sourdough bowl). This is such an unusual treat to discover, full of charming flavors and subtle nuances. The smooth texture easily partnered with the bread to create a welcome adventure to share amongst the table and there wasn’t a morsel left.

Moving on to our entrées, or as the menu calls them “high tide”, the selections available are numerous and across the board. From burgers to salmon to steaks to mac ‘n cheese (and we’re not talking something out of a box but a Lobster Truffle mac n’ cheese, yummy). We settled on the Grilled Rosemary Chicken Breast (on a molasses roll, with aged cheddar, smoked bacon, avocado & Dijon-roasted garlic bread) and the Broiled Fisherman’s Platter (with scallops, crab cake, fresh fish, shrimp, oysters, onion rings, hushpuppies & cole slaw). Being a big fan of chicken, it’s always a pleasure to find a restaurant that knows how to prepare it to be tender and moist and not into a rubber. The chicken coupled with the cheddar, bacon and avocado, evolved into a sweet tasting meal. The Fisherman’s Platter was literally jaw-dropping, not just in its sheer generous volume but with the numerous tidbits that made the dish awe-inspiring. Every bite was a scrumptious feast, fit for a king. Just wonderful!

If you’ve got room for desert, try their killer chocolate cake that looks like a skyscraper set before you on the table – it’s that huge. And it’s not just the size that counts here but the taste and if a cake that is “melting-in-your-mouth” moist works for you, then you have met your match.

All of these captivating dishes are brought to you with the culinary grace of C-Level’s chef, Deborah Scott. Already a legend in San Diego and beyond, Deborah continues to enchant with her unique blends of flavors, seasonings and presentations. While a little on the pricey side, the old saying that “you get what you pay for” couldn’t be truer here, as every bite is worth the price. Besides, there is convenient complimentary parking in front, so think of the money you’ll save and not having to find a parking spot if you were downtown. We would much rather spend money on fine food than a parking stall. So head over to C-Level, be mesmerized by its view and be even more enthralled with its delicious menu. Enjoy!
