Ladies, we're all slaves to fashion. Keeping up with the newest styles and hottest trends can be a full-time job (Where do I apply?). We recently took to the streets (a.k.a. the mall) for insight on what other woman feel are their summer must-haves:
This spring trend has carried way into summer. From dresses to skirts, leggings to jeans, floral print is the new denim. A research assistant named Trinity was seen at Forever 21 wearing a high-waisted floral print skirt. Floral summer dresses are also flourishing in stores this season, with radiant colors, endless design patterns and various lengths and styles. (Tip: When dressed in floral this summer, be sure to dress down your accessories and jewelry. Go for a more simple and chic look by focusing more attention on your shoes and handbag. Beige suede pumps from Aldo Shoes are perfect for dressing up any floral print.)
Cross Body Bags
San Diego State University student Jessica Mazza was spotted at Fashion Valley Mall wearing a white ruffled leatherette shoulder purse ($12) from H&M. This cross body style purse is one of this summer’s hottest trends. Also known as “pouch purses,” these lightweight handbags are perfect for carrying essentials (phone, make-up and money), allowing them to be quickly accessible. This purse is functional yet fashionable. Mazza says she loves the purse because, “it’s convenient to carry all my stuff!”
Florals, florals, florals.

Floppy Sun Hats
Nora Cardona was found at Fashion Valley's Forever 21 adorned in a floppy sun hat, trying on oversized aviator inspired gold frame sunglasses. Women all over San Diego can be found fashioning this same look. Floppy hats add a touch of classy style to your bikini or any summer outfit. Ranging in colors, sizes and styles, this type of hat is the perfect, yet trendy, way to stay protected from the sun's rays while at the beach.
Rachel King from Claremont is one of many women this summer strutting her stuff in strappy sandals. These flat, open-toed sandals come in a variety of vibrant and neutral colors. This style is known for its elaborate straps that wrap around the foot, usually accented with jewels, studs or beaded décor.“I like the versatile look these shoes have," says King. "They can be worn casual or worn out, easily dressing up an outfit.” Look for sandals at Baker’s Shoes, withprices starting at $19.99.
Boots Made for Walkin’
Neiman Marcus manager Sylvia Tamayo says the biggest trend this summer is boots. She says boots have replaced the shoe. A woman can wear boots on practically any occasion. This fashionista feels they're “sexy, fun and different.” You can wear boots on a hot summer day with a sundress or on a cold summer evening with jeans. This style gives a versatile look. And Tamayo says this is not just a summer trend, but will continue intothe fall season. “Expect everything," says Tamayo, "all types of boots--flat boots, heeled boots, knee boots, net basket boots, boots with embellishments (sequins, beads, fringe), everything!”
