Professional baseball teams used to have giveaway days where they’d pass out bats to fans. Fun idea, until patrons, hopped up on beer and booze, started hitting each other and throwing the bats onto the field at players.
Hard Rock Hotel San Diego thinks they have their bases covered, though, with a fun new amenity that’s coming soon: the “Check In, Rock Out” program, where you get a free guitar to play in your room.
The hotel has teamed up with Gibson Guitars. Overnight guests can check in and request a high-end Gibson axe and jam on it to their hearts content.
Um, but wait, what if your next-door neighbor wants to jam to his heart’s content until 2 in the morning, and you’ve got to get up at the crack of dawn for a sales presentation?
Not to worry, says Hard Rock Hotel San Diego spokesperson Rana Kay. Pocket pod amps and high definition earphones means no noise complaints should arise. It goes without saying that bringing your own amp is highly discouraged by management; as are Pete Townsend smash imitations and Jimi Hendrix campfires.
The program officially launches on Feb. 3, 2011, with a black carpet appearance by rock legend and former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde. He’ll dedicate one of his own signature guitars to the hotel and unveil the property's brand new collection.
San Diego is second in the Hard Rock chain to enlist this program; Chicago was the first.
