ShopLocalSD: San Diego Fashion On A Budget

I’m a boutique clothing store girl. I love the uniqueness of the clothing lines and supporting the locals who struggle to keep their small, independently owned brick-and-mortar stores thriving.
That said … I’m starting to watch my spending.
The catch is that I’m not willing to give up quality and great style. To my surprise, I was able to find a few places around San Diego that offer both.
My first stop was Nordstrom Rack. Lots of people are familiar with this store, but the line repeated by people who shop here is that you need to have ample time in your day to discover the great finds. On my first visit I hit the jackpot. I found a beautiful dress by designer Tracy Reese for $69, Hanky Panky panties for $11.89 (half the full price at Nordstrom), great athletic shoes for $59, (also half the price compared with REI and Road Runner Sports) and an amazing red dress for … I hate to say it lest you see me in it, for $19.99.
So, what’s the catch? The styles are not the latest, but the latest are not very different at all, so who really who cares?
Next up, the Las Americas Premium Outlet mall--only one stop from the exit to Tijuana.
Here shoppers can find Neiman Marcus Last Call, J.Crew, Gap, Disney and much much more. I recommend the Converse store. This shop is filled with phenomenal prices on extremely hip clothes for guys, girls and kids.
My other cool find is the Viejas Casino outlet mall in Alpine. This mall is better for Christmas shopping or shopping for work apparel, as there’s a Jones New York. There’s also an interactive fountain, bowling, ice-skating and of course, the casino.
For kids and young peeps I love H&M. No doubt this place is affordable, but check yourself before you wreck yourself. If you’re not careful you could look like a desperate fashion victim trying to stay afloat in a world that’s too young for you.
H&M is very fashion forward and therefore very young. So, if I may be so bold as to suggest—shop sparingly if you’re over 25. A few key pieces are all you’ll need. An investment in more may leave you regretting it when the pictures come out.
Lastly, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, but … Forever 21. With workout gear under $10, and cute accessories, trendy shoes and sexy dresses all under $30.
