Tim Heidecker lays down smooth cuts on debut album (VIDEO)
On Starting From Nowhere, the debut album from Heidecker and Wood, Tim Heidecker teams up with Davin Wood to craft an album’s worth of easy listening AM Gold tunes that could easily blend in with some of the best studio albums from the 1970’s and 80’s. Known largely for his comedic achievements on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim programming block; Heidecker found success with his comedy partner Eric Wareheim when they wrote, produced and starred in Tom Goes To The Mayor.
A crudely animated fifteen minute show that aired late night on Adult Swim, the show quickly gained a cult following and allowed them to pursue other endeavors, like their live action celebrity-filled, Tim And Eric Awesome Show Great Job! An absurdist sketch comedy show that aired for 5 seasons on Adult Swim TAEASGJ became the pinnacle of alternative comedy in recent years with numerous guest stars clamoring for a chance to appear in an episode. Notable celebrities that have appeared in Awesome Show Great Job! have been David Cross, Tom Skerritt, Ben Stiller, Zach Galifianakis and John C. Reilly whose character Dr. Steve Brule was so successful that he appeared as a regular cast member and received his own spin-off, “Check It Out With Dr. Steve Brule.”
With the release of Starting From Nowhere, we see Heidecker step out from his collaborative partnership with Wareheim while joining up with Awesome Show’s music supervisor, Davin Wood. A collection of studio cuts recorded by Heidecker and Wood, the album flows perfectly with the laid back setting of what you would imagine James Taylor’s living room might sound like on a Sunday afternoon. However with Heidecker’s feet planted firmly in the world of strange and obscure comedy, listener’s will often be left wondering if Starting From Nowhere is yet another platform for his unique and discernable sense of humor, or if the release of this debut album signifies a serious career change for the multi-talented comedian.
