Trail of Dead return to The Casbah
…And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead’s list of album releases is just shy the length of their name. However this (recently trimmed down) quartet hailing from Austin, Texas but rooted everywhere from Thailand and England to Hawaii, is coming back to southern California to appear at the Casbah on Thursday, June 16th.
There is no denying the resonance coming from the unmistakable mid-nineties bedrock that gave birth to the band but, like few bands still working the circuit today, Trail of Dead manages to press forward with a musical prowess that does not cling hopelessly to a generation long lost to flannel and a 56k modem. Their lyrical trekking meanders through a mixed bag of topics, including everything from the warm homecoming feel of moving in with a love, to ideas held by early heretical Christian sects regarding the existence of two Gods. Many of their lyrics have verbose annotations, which can be uncovered through simple online sleuthing (it is all on their website www.TrailOfDead.com)
Trail of Dead has a history of a trail of destruction in their live shows, given their tendency to thrash their own equipment at the conclusion of their performances. But their high-level post-punk energy, years of nurturing their nurturables, and tongue-in-cheek pretentiousness suggest, at worst, a great time to be had and a night to revel in.
And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, Ringo Deathstarr, & Follow That Bird perform at The Casbah on June 16. Trail of Dead's latest album,Tao of The Dead,is out now.
