San Diego is home to many a wine lover, but ask any vino fanatic and they will tell you that outside of frequenting wine bars, the options for securing a good merlot or a crisp chardonnay is not brimming with possibilities. While wine bars are great, admittedly one needs to look elsewhere if they are hoping to seat a large group or let alone trying to catch a Chargers game. Unfortunately, though, many regular bars tend to be less than vino friendly, overlooking their wine list and often only serving a house red or white from a dubious airplane-sized bottle.
In effort to save the city’s wine inclined drinkers from the despair of being poured a less than satisfactory glass of vino, SanDiego.com
has put together a list of bars that know how to serve up the vino with a refreshing change of scenery.

Beer and sports have always gone hand in hand so it’s not surprising that the closer you get to a baseball field or a football game, often the worse the wine gets. Pretty soon you are drinking a wine of questionable origin out of a clear plastic cup that the bartender can only describe by color. Luckily though, Proper Gastro Pub located adjacent to the Petco Park baseball stadium, is going against the grain and serving up delicious glasses of quality vino. With plentiful beer and wine options, this London inspired pub is a great place to grab a glass on your way to the ball game or even to enjoy pairing with some British dishes like Guinness Braised Short Rib or the traditional fish and chips. Cheers to that, mate!
