Top 5 Things to Know About the Veterans Museum & Memorial Center

  1. Purpose: The Veterans Museum & Memorial Center was created to preserve and celebrate the memories of the men and women who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States. The Veterans Museum also offers support and comfort to fallen veterans' survivors. 
  2. Location: Built on the site of the former San Diego Naval Hospital Chapel at Inspiration Point in Balboa Park in 1989, the Veterans Museum & Memorial Center has deep roots and connections with San Diego's naval past. 
  3. Admission Prices: General admission is only $5, while senior citizens and students with valid I.D.s receive reduced fares. Free admission is granted to museum members, active duty military guests and their dependents as well as children under 12 years old.
  4. Exhibits: The San Diego Veterans Museum & Memorial Center exhibits present war memorabilia, photographs and artifacts. The museum displays provide patriotic, military and war-related material. 
  5. Memorial Garden: In front on the Veterans Museum is the memorial garden, which is planted on one-acre of land and split into three individual gardens. Each separate garden is specifically dedicated to veterans of air, land and sea. The memorial garden is still a work in progress and Phase II and III plan to expand the gardens and add additional memorial monuments. 

The Veterans Museum & Memorial Center San Diego is located in Balboa Park and is open every Tuesday through Sunday 10am to 4pm. The Veterans Museum serves as an institution to recognize and celebrate the veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States. The memorial center works to preserve the memory of these fallen veterans and support and comfort their survivors. Veteran groups and active military organizations also use the San Diego Veterans Museum & Memorial Center as a venue for meetings and events.

The Veterans Museum  & Memorial Center promotes public awareness of the sacrifices that the men and women of the armed forces make in order to protect our country. The museum displays memorabilia and artifacts from the various wars and conflicts in our nations history. The exhibits also provide facts and information, while educating the public on the veterans services and the role of the United States military in America's achievements. In addition, the Veterans Museum & Memorial Center organizes and sponsors veteran presentations at local schools and organizations to help further educate the public on United States' history and military accomplishments.

  • Do Visit the Veteran's Memorial Garden: The memorial garden located in front of the museum reflects and promotes the relationship between San Diego civilians and the veteran community. The garden remembers and celebrates the efforts and sacrifices of the land, sea, and air veterans of our nation.
  • Don't Miss Eagle's Wings If You are a Military Widow: The Veterans Museum & Memorial Center created Eagle's Wings, a support and recovery program dedicated to helping the military widowed. The presentations at the Veterans Museum & Memorial Center include group sessions and discussions lead by trained professionals.
