La Jolla Shores in San Diego is a must-see diving spot for scuba divers, snorkelers and kayaks as it is considered one of the best in San Diego. La Jolla Underwater Park is located just off of San Diego La Jolla Shores offering 6,000 acres of tide-lands and two artificial reefs that attract various marine animals from dolphins and leopard sharks to the official marine fish of California the Garibaldi. La Jolla Canyon is also located just beyond this area, which is another popular underwater attraction for divers to observe the eclectic sea life. The ocean floor gently and gradually slopes into these underwater worlds creating minimal waves and making it an easily accessible area for diving. San Diego La Jolla Shores is additionally convenient for kayakers looking to explore these canyons because it has a public kayak boat launch as well. 

In addition to scuba diving, snorkeling and kayaking, San Diego La Jolla Shores is an ideal location for swimming and surfing. The calm waves at San Diego La Jolla Shores are kind to novice swimmers and beginner surfers and are considered the most gentle in all of San Diego. There are lifeguards on duty at La Jolla Shores usually from around 9am until dusk, but for added safety the water is split into designated water activity zones.

La Jolla Shores in San Diego is a family-friendly beach as it provides a picnic area and playground. After a day of swimming and building sand castles, the children won't be able to resist the jungle gyms and slides at the Kellogg Park Children's Playground at San Diego La Jolla Shores. There is also a boardwalk that connects the playground to the San Diego beach, offering a strip for joggers, skateboards and bikers to cruise.

  • Parking: A free lot with 350 parking spaces is located next to beach, but arrive early because these spots fill up quickly.
  • Restrooms: Restrooms and showers are located at the playground and picnic area.
  • Ecological Reserve: It is illegal to fish, remove objects or other marine life from La Jolla Shores.
