For more than two decades, HiTech Painting, Inc. has been bringing attention-to-detail, deep expertise and knowledge, and good old fashioned customer service to San Diego.
Getting Started
HiTech Painting, Inc. is the brainchild of owner and founder Mark Heuslein. Despite being a successful painting business with hundreds of high-profile clients, HiTech Painting started from much more humble beginnings.
Heuslein said he got his foot in the door doing residential work in the area. “I started 40 years ago doing tract homes in San Diego,” Heuslein said. “I got good at that. Then, I got bored of it.”
From there, he went on to work for painting companies that were doing commercial work, then industrial work. Eventually, he started doing high-end residential painting in areas like La Jolla, Fairbanks Ranch, and Del Mar.
“I would spend eight hours just prepping and painting one door,” he said. “But they wanted it perfect.”
Finally, Heuslein went solo 25 years ago and started his own business, which allowed him to incorporate what he had learned and to train his own painters. Eventually, Heuslein added, he got bored of that too, and moved on to more advanced painting technologies and techniques – techniques that can optimize the longevity of paint and coatings down to the molecular level.
Now, HiTech Painting, Inc. is bringing that deep expertise and real-world experience to customers throughout San Diego County and beyond.
HiTech Painting, Inc.’s Unique Offerings

HiTech Painting, Inc. offers a full range of paint, coating, and restoration services for clients across Southern California. From large-scale industrial projects like solar turbines to the U.S. Navy SEAL training facility, it seems like Heuslein’s company has worked with just about everyone in San Diego.
“We were at SeaWorld for a month on their new Journey to Atlantis ride. We just repainted everything around there. It was absolutely gorgeous,” he said. “We just got done doing a rappelling tower on Camp Pendleton about two weeks ago.”
People go to HiTech Painting, Inc. for the quality of service. The company provides the same level of knowledge and expertise across commercial, industrial, and residential projects.
In fact, that’s one of the draws for residential homeowners. Your house might not be subject to the same kind of wear and tear as an industrial storage tank, but the knowledge it takes to make a coating last on that tank can easily apply to making high-quality and long-lasting paint jobs on homes, decks, and fences.
“We’re not a regular painting company where we go paint houses. We do industrial work in power plants or aerospace facilities, things like that,” Heuslein said. “We have a unique service to offer. We do residential, but we do it for people who care about the quality.”
A Regional Leader in High-Quality Painting
Working with everyone from SeaWorld to the U.S. Navy kind of speaks for itself, but all of Heuslein’s customers have one thing in common: they’re happy with their paint job.
“We had Mark and his crew from HiTech Painting do both the inside and the outside of our house,” said residential homeowner Joyce. “That was 7 years ago and the outside still looks like new!”
From using eco-friendly and high-quality projects to caring about even the smallest details, HiTech Painting, Inc. provides a level of painting and protective coating services that’s tough to find outside of purely industrial firms. With HiTech Painting, Inc., you’re not just paying for paint and labor — you’re legitimately paying for craftsmanship.
For Heuslein, his commitment to excellence is just an extension of his core principles of hard work, integrity, and community. These guiding values are combined with something most painting companies don’t have: decades of real-world, hands-on experience doing tough work.
“People think painting is easy, so they’ll just slap some paint on there and call it good,” he said. “And a couple of years later, they got the same problem again. What we do is different.”
25 Years of Service in San Diego

Even though Heuslein runs a very successful business, he still maintains a level of humility that might be uncommon among self-made individuals.
“I still have this workman mentality,” he said. “I’m not the guy to go to lunch or go play golf. I’d rather have lunch on the job site.”
Heuslein founded his business in 1999, and officially incorporated in 2017. And although he tries to remain as hands-on as possible, Heuslein is trying to transition into a new role at HiTech Painting, Inc. — a more presidential one.
“I’m trying to transition, after 25 years, into being presidential,” he said. “So I’m not working in the field so much.”
However, Heuslein’s deep well of experience is still making an impact on every job that HiTech Painting does. He trains his employees in the skills and techniques that he’s learned over the years, and his leadership helps ensure a culture that prioritizes his core values.
“Today, I showed a guy how to roll walls, and how to do it faster and more efficiently,” he said. “So, I’m still in the field a little bit.”
