Del Mar Thorough bred Club – As Cool as Ever

Location

Del Mar Track
2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd

There’s nothing like a day at the races to remind you of everything amazing about living in San Diego.  Beautiful horses, people, weather, food, friends and scenery make Del Mar Thoroughbred Club (aka Del Mar Race Track) a perfect, iconic outing.  Plus, thanks to sandiego.com, my friends and I were treated to the ultimate VIP experience as guests of the Turf Club, the members-only space for an exclusive wagering experience.  With reserved seating, plush, indoor seating, private wagering and country club atmosphere – the Turf Club is a the way to go! https://www.dmtc.com/turf-club

I’m not a big gambler (usually I choose my horses based on their name and color – go Teal!) but I’ll admit that it’s a very exciting way to spend two bucks! Plus, when you win big like I did – eight bucks – woohoo) it’s way more fun!  Placing bets at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club (aka Del Mar Race Track) is a breeze due to the very friendly cashiers who will gladly help you navigate the unique world of wagering.

If you’d like to learn more about the “sport of kings” DMTC has lots of options.  They host newcomers’ workshops and handicapping seminars if you want to learn more about betting on the ponies.  You can even enjoy breakfast while watching morning workouts with trainers, horses and jockeys.  Del Mar is a family friendly place complete with face painters, games, pony rides and giant inflatables.

One of the things Del Mar is famous for, is its growing Concert and special event series.  The day we were at the track, there was a fun event called, “Uncorked – Del Mar Summer Wine Fest” featuring 150 wines, gourmet foods and music all while watching beautiful horses fly around the track!  As if that wasn’t enough admission to the races also included a free concert with the Grammy nominated band, Midland.  Whether you’re a country fan or not, Midland, has a great sound and who doesn’t love a free concert?

There are plenty of events on the schedule this summer including the Tacos & Beer Festival, Turf & Surf BBQ Championship, Taste of New Orleans, Country Beer Jam, and the Annual Food Truck Festival. Closing Day is Monday, September 2 so make sure to check out www.dmtc.com for the full line up of events, concerts and, of course, the excitement of the thoroughbreds.
