Rawhide Ranch Celebrates 50 Years
Want to give your kids a truly unforgettable experience in San Diego? A kids camp at Rawhide Ranch is the way to go! Trust me - I went to a few camps at Rawhide as a little buckaroo in San Diego and they are some of my very best childhood memories. From riding a horse named Deiter to learning how to country dance and take care of horses. It sparked a love for the country life that has never faltered and gave me a chance to see a different side of the city I love so much.
2013 marks the 50th anniversary of this awesome western ranch in the foothills of northeast San Diego County. Rawhide Ranch introduces kids to the simpler things in life. In a day and age littered with video games, cell phones and TVs, Rawhide Ranch San Diego is a breath of fresh air for kids and adults alike. At Rawhide Ranch, kids 7-17 years old can learn all about ranch life with activities including western horseback riding lessons, vaulting (gymnastics on horses), animal and horse science, animal care, archery and riflery, as well as lots of fun arts and crafts. It’s a great way for kids to make new friends, develop new passions and enjoy the outdoors while being in a safe environment. With an emphasis on education and safety, Rawhide kids camps go above and beyond to teach kids the ins and outs of ranch life, educate them on animal husbandry and make sure they are learning skills while also having the time of their lives.
Rawhide also provides Outdoor Education for school groups and is a great way to get students out of the classroom and learning about nature in a fun and safe environment. They also believe that every kid should have a chance to be a Rawhide camper so they partnered with the American Camp Association to use “camperships” for kids to have the opportunity to attend a camp at Rawhide Ranch. If you’d like to learn more about the Campership Program and help kids get a chance to attend Rawhide Ranch, please go to www.rawhideranch.com/friends/ and join the Friends of Rawhide Ranch’s Circle of Giving to to support this incredible program.
There are so many fun things to do in San Diego and Rawhide Ranch introduces kids and campers to a bunch of them. Try their Family Camp weekend over Labor Day or their Spot Light weekend in December to get the full Rawhide experience. There are some incredible open programming options for kids as well as us kids at heart. Developing a love of horses for it’s campers or a fondness for activities like archery, Rawhide creates long lasting memories for kids of all ages. It’s also a great way for campers to gain confidence by learning new skills and a strong respect for all beings with animal interactions and education. Rawhide focuses on hiring an international staff for cultural diversity with 13 different countries represented at Rawhide in 2013. This is a facility that doesn’t just do the minimum to provide a camp experience, they do much more than expected to make sure kids are getting the BEST camp experience in San Diego!
My experience as a camper at Rawhide ignited a love for horses and the ranch lifestyle that is still with me today. It taught me about the work that goes into caring for animals and the great reward we get from doing so. I think it was a huge factor in me becoming a person who loves to be outdoors hiking, riding horses and exploring the wilderness, while also being smart about my surroundings and always being prepared for a fun day out. I highly recommend booking a camp for your little buckaroos and introducing them to the wonders of ranch life and the beautiful outdoors in San Diego.
