Located in the first house built on Cedros Avenue in Solana Beach in 1924, the Bixby and Ball gift and bedding boutique is nothing less than adorable.

When owners Betsy Bracken and Melisa Anderson became friends, they knew they wanted to operate a business together.

With Anderson’s background in interior design and Bracken’s in event planning, they decided to take a risk and do something unique. They would create a store that offered merchandise as well as a lifestyle--a store where customers could buy beautiful things and then learn how to incorporate them into a style befitting their lives.

With the grand opening on October 8, the store pays homage to a coastal aesthetic. Leading up to the holidays, Anderson says she feels confident that even though they’re opening a new store during a rough economy, tourists and locals alike will both respond to the new concept.

Bixby and Ball carries some of the hottest items in home décor.

Kai products, for example, is a home and beauty line that the owners say best represents them. Kai’s candles, lotions, perfumes, soaps and linen wash are all clean fresh, simple, and classic.

As for bedding, here’s where the charm is really apparent. The store offers the John Robshaw line. With a degree in Fine Art from Pratt, Robshaw studied traditional block printing in China and fell in love with India’s fabric making traditions. His bedding reflects his love of Asia and the artisans he works with.

For those customers who appreciate the best of the best in the form of amazing bedding, Bixby and Ball offer the Mateo line. Started in 1996, the line offers the most luxurious textiles--all sewn in Los Angeles. Mateo is a bedding line dedicated to detail and quality, but also comes with a price tag to prove it.

If you could care a less about bedding, and are looking for something more on the gift side, Bixby and Ball offers unique jewelry lines, books, and the infamous most cozy of the cozy Barefoot Dreams robes.

The Nashelle jewelry line is designed by Alaska born mom of three Heather Beeson-Straw. Beginning in a where house in Bend Oregon in 2006, the beautiful and eclectic line exploded quickly and is now sold in over four hundred boutiques worldwide, and is much coveted by celebs from Mishca Barton to Lauren Lo of the Hills.

With a deep history of hard working entrepreneurs on both sides of owner’s family’s, the name Bixby and Ball was born.

“We named our store based on our families’ ethics of hard work and, of course, are trying to add our modern take on that with the concept,” Anderson and Braxton say.
