About San Diego Zoo Safari Park
Formerly known as the San Diego Wild Animal Park, the San Diego Zoo Safari Park is one of the largest tourist attractions in Southern California, housing wild and endangered animals in their simulated natural habitats of continents such as Africa, Asia, Europe and Australia. To give an idea of its size, the entire footprint of the San Diego Zoo can fit into the parking lot of the Safari Park. Both the Park and the Zoo are run by the Zoological Society of San Diego. The non-profit park, which has been in operation since 1972, operates an on-site tram with multiple routes, a tethered balloon ride that reaches 400 ft in height, personal SegWay transportation rentals, and a zip-line ride attraction.
