REGIONS

Whether you’re planning a vacation or considering relocation, a visit to San Diego wouldn’t be complete without exploring some of the city’s regions. Each of its unique regions offers unique things for both tourists and locals to see and do.

Downtown

Downtown San Diego is what most people think of when they picture the city. Downtown is vibrant and bustling. It’s home to the popular Gaslamp Quarter, which offers trendy boutiques, bars, breweries, and nightclubs. Little Italy is known for the best pizza and biscotti the city has to offer.

Balboa Park, which is one of the most significant urban parks in the United States, and the world-famous San Diego Zoo are located just north of Downtown.

No matter what your interests are, Downtown San Diego has something to offer everyone!

Inland

This region of San Diego is recognized as the “desert region.” Anza-Borrego State Park is found here. The park is known for its breathtaking views of its wildflowers and cacti when they’re in bloom!

Los Angeles County

Although not actually located in San Diego, nearby Los Angeles County offers so many things to see and do. This region of SoCal is most famous for Hollywood. You’ll find the famous Hollywood Sign and the Hollywood Walk of Fame here.

Los Angeles County is also a popular vacation spot for San Diegans. It's famous for its beautiful beaches. Perhaps the most famous is Santa Monica Pier, which offers picturesque views of the ocean and amusement park-style rides.

North Country Inland

With its gorgeous rolling hills, North Country Inland is a popular spot to go hiking and biking. You’ll get the SoCal experience at the many golf courses, wineries, and casinos in the region, or you can be transported to Africa and Asia at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

North County Coastal

As this region’s name suggests, you’ll find breathtaking beaches in North County Coastal. The area is known for its laid-back vibes, beautiful palm trees, and gorgeous coastline. It’s a hotspot for surfing, swimming, snorkeling, and other beach activities. LEGOLAND California is located in the North County Coastal region.

South Bay

Located south of Downtown San Diego, South Bay is recognized as the gateway to Baja California. You’ll find some of the best Mexican food the city has to offer, as well as some great spots for surfing, fishing, and horseback riding. South Bay is home to Imperial Beach and Chula Vista, where you’ll find Sesame Place San Diego.
