STAYCATION GUIDE

There's no reason not to enjoy all that San Diego has to offer with a well-deserved staycation. By definition, a staycation is a blend of the words “stay” and “vacation.” Think of it as a domestic vacation rather than hectic national or international travel. This means you can swim in your backyard pool and visit museums, state fairs, and amusement parks. You could even book a few nights at an Airbnb or hotel in a nearby beach town.

San Diego features 70 miles of magnificent coastline. There are plenty of things to do. Take your family to the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park. Spend the day at SeaWorld San Diego. Race Ferrari cars assembled out of LEGO blocks on three different tracks at LEGOLAND.

San Diego Attractions to Hit

In San Diego, families have fun no matter what they're interested in -- theme parks, state parks, water parks, sandcastles, beach bonfires, museums for kids, or hiking trails. It is one of the best family destinations in the country. Children of all ages can participate in special kids' programs at many San Diego hotels and resorts. More recently, staycations are becoming increasingly popular as a cheaper alternative to vacations.

San Diego Discounts

Consider all your options for places to stay, things to do, and how to save money. San Diego is a world-renowned vacation destination --- and it's also an ideal place to enjoy a staycation. With so many things to see and places to go, you're sure to find the perfect way to relax and rejuvenate without ever having to leave the city.

If you want a change of scene, stay in a fancy hotel. During the low season, many hotels and Airbnbs offer discounts for local residents because their occupancy rates are low. To find out more, visit websites of places you’d like to stay for one or two nights to see if your zip code is eligible for discounts.

Best Time of the Year for San Diego Staycations

September through November is a great time to visit the beaches or theme parks. Autumn and spring are also good times to staycation. The hotels provide lower prices, and you’ll gain easier access to the beach and theme parks. However, the weather is still quite warm during these seasons. If you’re looking for cooler weather, November to April are the best months to plan your holiday. The city is full of holiday spirit, and you can explore without large crowds. However, keep in mind that rain is more likely during this time as well.
