STAYCATION GUIDE

San Diego is a great destination for visitors and tourists to come and visit. But for locals to the city, there are also some great things to do when you finally get to plan a staycation.

San Diego Zoo Attractions

The San Diego Zoo is one of the best in the world. There's a huge menagerie of animals to watch and interact with. What makes the zoo great for a staycation is that the events change, so the experience is different every time. The zoo is an especially great option for those with kids.

There are many experiences and activities that will appeal to all ages. If it's your first time, or you just want the added experience, consider taking a guided tour around the zoo. Experts typically bring out smaller animals throughout the day for an up-close look and offer detailed information about the critters. Check the local schedule to see when these experiences are happening.

Spots for a San Diego Beach Day

Even if you’ve lived in San Diego all your life, a day at the beach is still a great way to kick back and enjoy a staycation. La Jolla Shores and South Mission Beach are beautiful but are often popular tourist spots. If you’re looking for something more low-key, visit Bermuda or North Cove Beach, which are smaller and more secluded options.

The beaches of San Diego offer a variety of activities and entertainment for you to enjoy. You might try your hand at surfing, sailing, whale watching, paddle boarding, or other watersports. These beaches are also great spots just to get out to soak up some sun.

Hike Local San Diego Trails

If you’ve lived in Southern California for any amount of time, you’ve probably noticed the amazing different landscapes and nature that surround you. A staycation should be relaxing, and a walk through the various natural parks and trails is a great way to unwind while taking in the scenery.

If you’re looking for a more engaging hike, try a trail around Fortuna Mountain or the Sunset Cliffs. These trails are more challenging but will give you a gorgeous top-down view of the City. Try a path through Tecolote or Oak Canyon for an easier nature walk. These trails take you through rolling grasslands that set the scene for your relaxing walk through nature. The beautiful scenery of San Diego will be a great backdrop for any staycation.
